ABOUT THE POLICY

Why should I buy TravellersSOS
My bank will cancel my cards, what does TravellersSOS provide that a bank doesn't?
But I take a mixture of traveller's cheques, cash and my cards.
So is TravellersSOS travel insurance?
What does TravellersSOS provide that travel insurance doesn't?

1. Why should I buy TravellersSOS?

TravellersSOS is the travellers emergency service. An increasing number of us rely on credit and debit cards for our holiday spending money, and also take and use our mobile phones abroad. Cards were used for 28% of all foreign spending last year.

TravellersSOS is a low cost assistance and insurance product designed to provide all the help you'll need in a holiday emergency. For example:

  • What if your credit or debit cards are lost or stolen?
  • How will you cancel them?
  • Will they be used fraudulently and will you be held liable?
  • How will you pay for the rest of your holiday? Draw spending money? Especially if your travellers cheques were lost or stolen too.
  • What if your mobile phone is stolen?
  • How will you replace lost or stolen travel documents?

At TravellersSOS we'll help you cancel lost or stolen bank cards and mobile phones, cover you if they're used fraudulently, provide a cash advance to make sure you're not forced to sleep on the beach, and give you access to an emergency helpline* - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You'll also get a regular travellers newsletter offering valuable travel advice, information and exclusive policyholder offers. All from less than £10 a year.

*Full details can be found in the policy benefits page and in the terms and conditions.

2. My bank will cancel my cards, what does TravellersSOS provide that a bank doesn't?

Much more in terms of emergency assistance, and a range of insurance benefits. TravellersSOS can dramatically ease the trauma of having your purse, wallet or mobile phone stolen whilst abroad, anywhere in the world. We've given some examples on the home page. They're not made up, but actual events that happened to real people.

A bank will cancel their own cards, but most people today carry cards from more than one bank. Some people carry chargecards, storecards and mobile phones too. With one simple phonecall we'll provide you with all of the help you need to cancel all of your cards, and your mobile phone.

If there has been fraudulent use of your cards or your phone then you may be held liable for some of these costs. We'll cover that liability, and refund the cost of obtaining an emergency passport.*

In addition we'll provide a cash, accommodation or travel ticket advance, or cover the cost of getting an emergency credit card issued to you, to help you fund the rest of your trip.*

We'll relay emergency messages and help with police reports. We'll provide emergency assistance with lost or stolen travel documents, disrupted travel arrangements or lost property. In short, we'll provide all of the assistance you'll need to solve a holiday emergency. At the time of the emergency. We won't just cancel your cards for you.

It all adds up to a lot of cover from as little as 3p a day.

3. But I take a mixture of traveller's cheques, cash and my cards.

Great, but do you keep them in different places? Could they all be stolen? And if they were what would you do?

Typically you'll have to wait for at least 24 hours before the traveller's cheques are replaced, or you receive an emergency card replacement. If you need a cash, a hotel or a replacement ticket advance in the meantime, we can help. And, depending on where you are in the world, we may be able to get you a cash advance within 2 hours.

If you don't need a cash advance, we'll pay for the cost of an emergency card replacement. Either way we'll cover up to £1,500 of fraudulent use on your cards, up to £150 worth of fraudulent use on your mobile phone, help you report your cards and your phone lost or stolen, pay for the cost of emergency passport replacement, pay for the cost of the calls to report your cards or your mobile phone lost and stolen, and give you access to an emergency help line*. All from less than £10 a year.

4. So is TravellersSOS travel insurance?

Well yes, and no! TravellersSOS offers valuable insurance and assistance benefits for travellers, but it does not cover medical expenses, cash, personal belongings and many other items travel insurance offers. It is an ideal complement to travel insurance, but should not be considered as a substitute.

5. What does TravellersSOS provide that travel insurance doesn't?

TravellersSOS complements rather than overlaps with travel insurance. Many of the benefits travel insurance offers are re-active rather than pro-active - they help after you have solved the emergency, rather than helping you at the time to solve the emergency.

TravellersSOS is there for you at the time of a travel emergency. It helps you make a molehill out of the mountain. For example, TravellersSOS helps you to cancel credit and debit cards, and mobile phones lost or stolen whilst abroad. We can help you with lost or stolen travel documents, disrupted travel arrangements and lost property. And we'll help you keep your holiday on track with a cash, accommodation or ticket advance*. All for less than 3p a day.
